Community Foundation to Honor Legacy Families
The Bartlesville Community Foundation will honor two more legacy Bartlesville families by inducting them into its Hall of Fame in May. The Colaw and Roll families will be recognized for their contributions to Bartlesville -- touching many facets of the city, making it a quality place to live.
Wesleyan pastor, Dr. Charles Benjamin Colaw and his wife, Mabel, stopped in Bartlesville in 1958 to fix a flat tire, learned of property for sale on Silverlake Road, and found a site to plant a small college that had been in Colorado Springs and after several name changes became Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
Pilot Paul Roll and his wife, Narnie, joined Fidelity Underwriters, an insurance agency that served military personnel. His business brought him to Tulsa, and eventually to Bartlesville. Roll sold his business to buy two nursing homes and built Heritage Manor Nursing Home and one of the first assisted living facilities in the state, Heritage Apartments. He bought a local insurance agency in 1995 and changed it a years late to Phoenix Insurance.
The Hall of Fame ceremony is set for Saturday, May 16th at the Hilton Garden Inn. Call 918-337-2287 for tickets.
